From Mayor Edward Bettencourt, Jr.: I am hoping you can help me spread the word about an exciting event scheduled for Friday night. On Friday night September 12th, the Peabody Tanners football team will suit up for their home opener against Lynn English. Adding to the excitement of this year's festivities will be the unveiling of a new synthetic turf playing surface and other improvements to Coley Lee Field and the George L. Smyrnios Track at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School. During the on field pre-game ceremony, we will be honoring our military veterans and the state champion Peabody football squads of 1916, 1921, 1938, 1940, 1944, and 1969 as well as the Super Bowl champion teams of 1990 and 1993. If you are a member of any of these teams, I hope your schedule allows you to join me for a reception prior to the on-field ceremony. The reception will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Christine Barbuto Memorial Courtyard at Peabody High. I look forward to seeing you on Friday evening, September 12th! If you know any of the members of the 1990 or 1993 Super Bowl teams, please let them know about this event. We hope to have a great showing from these two classes. We look forward to celebrating the completion of this project throughout the month of September as the various fall sports teams take the field for the first time in 2014.9/9/14 via Facebook
